How long does it take to build a business website?

Typical stages from discovery to launch, and the points where projects actually slow down.

A straightforward marketing site, with decisions made promptly, often sits in a range of several weeks rather than several days. More involved builds take longer because the unknowns are larger, not because the software is slower.

Time is usually spent in four places: agreeing what the site is for, writing and approving content, designing the templates, and building, testing and launching. Content is the stage most clients underestimate.

You can compress design and development by running them together once the structure is agreed. You cannot compress a missing offer or a committee that cannot approve a homepage.

If you need a date for a launch, campaign or premises opening, say so at the start. A phased launch (core pages first, secondary pages later) is often more realistic than pretending everything will be perfect on one Friday.

If you are briefing a project in the South West, you may also want web design, website development or a conversation about the brief.

Have a project in mind?

Use this as a briefing note, then talk.

Cost, time and stack choices are easier to settle against a real project than against a generic range.
